The Chairman of minibus motor park in Abak Local Government Area, Akwa Ibom State, Mr Samuel Bassey, has been found dead near a stream in a village.

The deceased, popularly known as ‘Satoo’, was said to have been killed by suspected cultists in the vicinity.

It was learnt that the deceased was accompanied to the village stream to take a bath by one of his close friends after playing football at the Obio Akpa primary school field on Sunday morning.

It was gathered that the deceased never returned from the stream as his naked body inflicted with bruises was later discovered by the riverside.

Sources told our correspondent that a phone call from an unknown person alerted the family of the deceased’s death. The caller informed Bassey’s wife that her husband’s body was lying near the stream.

It was also learnt that the friend of the deceased who accompanied him to the stream was nowhere to be found.

A witness, who pleaded anonymity, told our correspondent that on receipt of the phone call, a search party was mobilised and the corpse of the man was found by the village stream.

He stated that the family was surprised that the friend who accompanied him to the stream never returned to the family to inform relatives of how he died.

“Friends and relatives gathered immediately and mobilised a search team to the village stream where the body was found but with wounds all over the body showing that he was beaten until he died.

“The family is shocked that the friend never came back to the family to tell us what happened,” he stated.

Reacting, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Odiko Macdon, said the command was yet to receive the report and promised to contact the Divisional Police Officer in Abak to brief him on the incident.

“I have not received such a report from Abak Out Station. I will find out from the DPO of the area and give you more details,” he said.
