Motherhood: What a glorious career

“Motherhood is a complete package of high and low thrills which cuts deep into our deepest being. It is a marvellous and priceless gift that can never be traded for anything in the world. Absolutely nothing in the world!” says Mary Anne a mother and house wife. Motherhood starts with pain and ends with pain in trying to bring forth the child to the world. That is not all as even after bringing the child to the world it’s followed by years of emotional stress and servitude. So many like Joy Akpan a spinster is forced to ask “what in the world are people talking about when they say or speak of the joys of motherhood?” being a spinster one would not expect her to understand the whole feeling of being a mother and the joys derived from being one.

Motherhood has its good, bad and ugly sides as it is never an easy cruise all the way. “The gift of motherhood is priceless, though there are times when it comes in torments and you just feel like throwing in the towel and walking away from all the stress but looking back now and realising that all efforts were not wasted, it has been worth every pain and hurdle. I would do it over and over again without giving a second thought” says Mrs Bello a proud mother of five kids.

Many look down at being a full time mother and house wife as one that does not know her right and still leaves in the cave age but they fail to realise that motherhood is the most glorious career any woman can ever think of doing and the reward that comes after the whole trouble is nothing compared to the whole wealth in the world. It would sense if the society starts seeing motherhood as a job and a difficult career that cannot be done by anyone except the woman herself, not even a man can do half of what it takes to be a mother.

They say you don’t appreciate your mum until you, yourself, become a one or a parent! Some have attributed the love of a mother as next to that of God. “ for me I work with one Jewish proverb and it has helped a lot in understanding what being a mother is all about and the proverb says thus God could not be everywhere and therefore he created mothers. Making motherhood the most important and respected job or career in the eyes of our creator” says Toyosi Akin

“I always knew and thought about being a mother at one point in my life but thinking it and actually living it are two different things all together as there is always joy no matter what is bothering you at that moment when you see the other being you have brought into the world, watching them play, scream, cry, laugh, make funny faces and growing up to become a man or woman makes the whole mothering process quite interesting and enduring no matter the circumstances. For me I am very proud that I could pass through being a mother and have tried my best in this heavenly career naturally bestowed on me” says Amina Atiku.

Bringing forth kids into the world is not all that is about being a mother as you can bring forth a child but fail in your responsibilities as a mother. It is important that mothers see themselves as the real role models for their kids as we are the only ones that can shape or mar their future. Whoever your child turns out to be in future will definitely and always be attributed to you because as John Quincy Adams rightly said “All that I am my mother made me”.  We all want to be proud mothers and all it starts with us being proud of ourselves and who and what we are which is mothers for soon we will come to realise that motherhood is a glorious career.
