Justina, the wife of a newly promoted police inspector who lived at No. 2 Ombi Lafia street, allegedly lost her baby on Tuesday.
Sources said she was being consoled by relatives over the death when she allegedly drank the substance.
Sources close to the family told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the deceased drank the substance in the presence of sympathisers.
NAN learnt that Justina became drowsy afterwards and vomited, but sympathisers thought her condition was due to the shock she suffered from the loss of her baby.
The source said sympathisers struggled to revive her when they realised she had poisoned herself by giving her palm oil to drink but the efforts came a little late.
“We were all confused and perplexed by what could be her reason for killing herself but none of us could say,’’ a source said.
Justina’s husband, Mr Musa Sule, refused to talk on the matter as he looked downcast.
Meanwhile, the remains of the woman have been deposited at the Dalhatu Specialist Hospital, Lafia.
Police Public Relations Officer, Richard Akogi, confirmed the incident, saying the police will investigate it.
