Hoodlums were said to have burnt two Hilux pickup vans and a bus being used for PDP presidential campaign last Sunday. Sources at the PDP secretariat in Suleja told our reporter that the vehicles were donated to the party in Bida zone for presidential campaign activities.
One of the sources said some angry youths in the town trailed the vehicles to the Transformer bus stop in Suleja on their way to Bida and set them ablaze.
The youths, according to the sources, were annoyed by some officials of the party who allegedly failed to release N2,000 to each of them, being an amount agreed to be given to those who wore PDP branded T-shirts during the party’s rally for the Niger State gubernatorial candidate in Suleja.
Soldiers and policemen succeeded in dispersing the crowd moment after the incidence and calmed the situation, which had earlier caused pandemonium among residents of the commercial town.
The arrests, City News learnt, started on Sunday and continued up till Wednesday, when our reporter visited the affected areas, which included Unguwar Magaji, Dawaki, and Yan Gwan-gwan around the IBB market in Suleja.
When contacted, Suleja Divisional Police Officer, Francis Ekanem, a Chief Superintendent, confirmed the incident, but declined further comments.
