Monguno, who represents Marte/Monguno/Nagazai Federal Constituency of Borno State, said in a statement that as a loyal party member, he would accept APC’s take on zoning in good faith as he would not go against the party no matter what.
Monguno is believed to be enjoying support from many members of the House in his quest to be speaker from the North-east, but he said his ambition could not in any way be compared to the party’s supremacy.
The statement said: “I, Mohammed Tahir Monguno, member representing Marte/Monguno/Nagazai Federal Constituency of Borno State, wish to tell Nigerians, particularly APC members in the House of Representatives that I am a disciplined party man, therefore I am ready to abide by the party’s decision on zoning formula for key positions in the House.
“I also wish to categorically say that APC is the party that I used as a vehicle to rise to political prominence and came to the House. I cannot therefore bite the finger that fed me. My ambition cannot in any way be compared to the supremacy of the APC.
“I want to remain a loyal and respectful member and stakeholder of the party and will not do anything against APC. I wish to urge all our members, especially those in the House, to remain loyal to the party,” he said.
Monguno, a lawyer by profession, has been in the lower chamber since 2007 and is currently chairman of the House Committee on Agriculture.
