Operatives of the Ogun Police Command have paraded two suspects, Monday Karezu, 32, and Anagonou Kamelan, 44, who were allegedly caught with a fresh human head.
The spokesman of the command, Abimbola Oyeyemi, in Abeokuta, on Sunday, said the suspects, who are Benin Republic and Togolese nationals respectively were arrested by officers of the Modus Operandi section of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department.
Oyeyemi said the police got a hint that two men were going to visit a herbalist with human head which they want to use for money-making ritual.
He said when the police got the tip off, DSP Nurudeen Gafar led a team to the area where the herbalist’s house was situated and laid ambush.
He said after about two hours, the suspects arrived on a motorcycle with a bag containing the human head.
Oyeyemi said the suspects were arrested instantly with the exhibit.
The police spokesman said investigation revealed that the human head caught with them was that of a woman who died three months ago during childbirth and was buried not too far from Sabo area of Abeokuta, where the first suspect resided.
Oyeyemi explained that the Benin Republic national had earlier killed his nine-month-old daughter and used her head for ritual but which was a futile exercise.
He added that Karezu had also exhumed another corpse, removed the head and used it for money-making ritual but which also failed.
“On interrogation, Monday Karezu, the Benin Republic nation, informed the police that he got the head from a place known as Ijale Papa and the policemen follow him there only to discover that he was lying.
“Further investigation revealed that Monday Karezu is a resident of Sabo area of Abeokuta, and that the human head with him was that of a woman who died three months ago during childbirth and was buried not too far from his house.
“It was further discovered that the suspect had one time killed his nine-month-old daughter and used her head for the same purpose. He also exhumed another corpse, removed the head and used it for money-making ritual but failed,” he said.
Oyeyemi added that “the latest one that landed them in trouble was introduced to him by Anagonou Kamalen, a Togolese, who informed him that he knew a herbalist who could do money rituals for him with a human head.”
He said the Commissioner of Police, Lanre Bankole, has ordered full investigation into the activities of the suspects.
