Money inducement by politicians at polling units was rampant at Saturday’s governorship and House of Assembly elections leading to tension and confrontations in some polling units around Jos city.
Weekly Trust gathered that at polling unit 027, Tudun Wada Moto park in Jos north, mobile police officers arrested an agent allegedly working for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for trying to induce a police officer.
Losam Yohanna, a youth leader in Tudun Wada said “the PDP agent only called the police man into a house to speak with him. Electorates started shouting that he was trying to bribe him and the owner of the house also asked them to go out.”
Mobile police officers on patrol were said to have arrested the police officer and PDP agent.
Polling unit 917 at the same Tudun Wada witnessed another commotion when a supporters of a political party were seen distributing money to electorates.
Our correspondent gathered that the man said to be distributing the money was almost lynched before the Special Task Force (STF) intervened to calm the situation.
The culprit was said to have escaped due to the STF Intervention but the youths then turned their anger at the STF.
Reports reaching us also indicated similar situations around Jenta Adamu and Jenta Apata where money was allegedly paid to some adhoc staff to hoard election materials.
