The 51-year-old Shehu was appointed on March 2, 2009 and was turbaned on March 4, 2009. He succeeded the 19th Shehu Mustapha bin Umar Kyari Al-Amin El-Kanemi who died on February 21, 2009 in Cairo and was buried at his palace in Maiduguri.
The new Shehu will receive his staff after being appointed three months as against the case of the deceased Shehu whose staff was presented in 1975, one year after his appointment in 1974.
Though it was not officially confirmed, Sunday Trust leart that the SGF might represent President Umaru Yar’adua who had been invited to serve as Special Guest of Honour at the occasion.
As at 7:15 pm yesterday, the governor of Kano State was being expected at the Maiduguri International Airport. Some ministers including that of Defence, Dr Shettima Mustapha, traditional rulers, including Emirs of Argungu, Dass, Ningi, Jamare, Jajere and numerous others had also arrived.
Over 100 traditional rulers, including the Alaafin of Oyo, Ooni of Ife, Oba of Lagos and others across the six geo-political zones in the country were expected to witness the event.
