…Uses the money to buy phone
While most parents would say that their children are priceless, one Zhejiang mom knows exactly how much her own kids cost.
Several weeks after giving birth, the new mother sold off her twin sons for a total of 65,000 yuan (about N3.3million) with one fetching 45,000 yuan and the other 20,000 yuan, according to a local news report.
The woman, surnamed Ma, says that she was broke and had no choice but to auction off her children to the highest bidder. She explains that the twins’ father had disappeared while her own parents had refused to help out, angry at her for having children before marriage.
However, after she sold off the infants, their father came back into the picture. Ma decided to split the money with him. With her half of the funds, she paid off her credit card debt and bought a new smartphone.
This all happened last September and was only uncovered recently by police in Ma’s hometown of Cixi in Zhejiang province while they were investigating another case.
Both Ma and her boyfriend have been arrested. Meanwhile, officers managed to track down the twins who were bought by separate families in Anhui province. The two have been put under the care of Ma’s parents.
