MOB Unity Cup: Bamidele pledges support for sports in Ekiti

Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, representing Ekiti Central Senatorial District has pledged to change the face of sports by giving priority to grassroots sports development in Ekiti.

The Senate Leader gave the assurance while speaking at the opening ceremony of the second edition of the MOB Unity Cup organised among football teams in his senatorial district.

The senator who was represented by one of his legislative aides, Mr Gbenga Banji said it is time for individuals, corporate bodies and philanthropists to support the government in developing sports.

He described sports as one of the most lucrative ventures all over the world, while stressing the need for Ekiti to take its rightful place in the world of sports.

Bamidele promised continued support to the State Governor, Mr Biodun Oyebanji in his quest to transform sports  in Ekiti.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Sen. Bamidele is currently constructing six standard stadia across Ekiti Central Senatorial District to promote grassroots sports.

In the opening match of the competition played at Christ’s School Football field in Ado-Ekiti, Harmony Football Club defeated Eleven Lions FC 7-6 on penalties, after a 1-1 draw during regular time.

NAN reports that group matches are on-going in all the five local government councils in the senatorial district.

The local government councils in the senatorial district include; Ado, Irepodun/ Ifelodun, Ekiti West, Efon and Ijero. (NAN)
