A mob yesterday ‎lynched a suspected kidnapper and set him ablaze.
The incident which took place on a major road along Barnawa Market in Kaduna South local ‎government area of Kaduna State caused traffic grid lock for several hours.
Daily Trust gathered that the suspect was trying to kidnap two children from LGEA Primary School when he was nabbed.
A source said: “The kidnapper has already put one of the kids inside ‘Ghana-must-go’ bag, he also tried to remove the eyes of the other child. It was then that he was caught. He was beaten to death and set ablaze with tyres. Nobody knows the identity of the boy and we are not sure if he is from Barnawa. I heard that the children rescued from the kidnapper had been taken to the house of an elderly man, while some people say they were taken to the house of a chief, but I don’t know which chief.”
The source said the people resorted to jungle justice because of the spate of kidnapping, armed robbery and other forms of crime in the state.
Daily Trust reports that few days ago a little child’s eyes were plucked out in Narayi, about one kilometer from Barnawa.
A shop owner who spoke to our correspondent condemned the lynching  ‎and setting ablaze of the suspect, pointing out that the suspect might not be a kidnapper as different accounts were given by the mob and eye witnesses.
“If the suspect was truly a kidnapper,” the shop owner said, “then killing him was never the best thing to have done because he could have given useful information ‎that would aid investigation and enhance the busting of the syndicate responsible for the kidnappings.
“Different stories are emanating and now that the suspect has been killed; no one can say anything for sure. Besides, the killing was carried out by area boys smoking Indian hemp and other hard drugs around the market and the primary school in Barnawa. That is all the more reason why I am very suspicious, because the testimony is coming only from the mob. And now that the suspect has been killed, no one can know the truth any longer,” the shop owner added.
When contacted, the Kaduna Police Public Relations Officer, Deputy Superintendent of Police Zubairu Abubakar, confirmed the incident, saying that investigation into the matter has commenced.
