A witness simply identified as, Ipole, said the suspect had already dispossessed the owner of the motorcycle and sped away with it.
However, the alarm raised by the victim led other commercial motorcycle riders to pursue the alleged thief.
Luck ran out on the suspected thief, according to the witness who further explained that the pursuers caught the thief near St. Augustine Catholic Church in Wadata where they killed him and set his body ablaze.
The second incident was said to have happened at the Modern market in Makurdi on Friday where suspected cultists hacked a victim into pieces.
Our correspondent gathered that the victim, alleged to also be a cultist, was trailed into the market by a rival gang who opened gun fire on him but the bullets didn’t penetrate.
A witness said his killers then pulled out cutlasses and other dangerous sharp objects with which they used to cut down their victim in shred just before the close of the market on Friday, stressing that the incident which occured in public glare caused panic in the area.
The spokesperson of the Benue Police Command, DSP Catherine Anene, confirmed the incident just as she consistently warned against jungle justice.
“Incident confirmed and condemned,” Anene stated in a text message to our correspondent.
