Irate mob on Wednesday evening set fire on three vehicles and a tricycle at a police outpost at Daki Biyu in Jabi district of Abuja after attempting jungle justice on a killer suspect.
Witnesses told City & Crime that the mob went into a fury after learning that the police had released a suspected killer on bail who was earlier detained at the outpost. A source, who craved anonymity out of fear of retribution from the police, alleged that the officers in the outpost collected some money from the family of the suspect and released him.
However, the FCT command refuted the allegation as unfounded.
The command’s Public Relations Officer, Josephine Adeh, said, “There was nothing like police collecting money from anyone.

“On 05/02/24 at about 6 pm, some youths stormed the police outpost in Daki-Biyu, requesting for the release of a suspect namely Amos Madgit Maren who earlier stabbed one Amos Meshak who is now deceased. Situation was put under control and suspect still in custody. Investigation is on ongoing,” she added.
But our source said, “It all started on Sunday when a young man was stabbed thrice at Daki Biyu while interceding between warring parties. He was immediately rushed to the hospital and the suspect was apprehended by the victim’s friends who later handed him over to Daki Biyu police outpost.
“So, on Wednesday when the victim succumbed to the stabs, dozens of angry youth mobilized to the outpost, demanding the suspect be produced to them. They later alleged that the police released him on bail after collecting some amount of money from a member of his family.
“They stormed the outpost, chased the personnel, and set detainees free while attempting to burn down the outpost but they couldn’t and in the process, they set fire on three vehicles parked close to the outpost, including the police vehicle and one tricycle.
“The police claimed the suspect was transferred to Life Camp Division but failed to show any evidence of their claim,’’ he added.
