Mob lynches 2 suspected armed robbers in Bauchi

Two suspected armed robbers have been lynched by a mob in Bauchi State after they were accused of killing a commercial motorcycle operator and stealing his bike in Misau LGA.

The State Police Command Public Relations Officer, SP Ahmed Wakil, confirmed the incident and the murder of a 25-year-old commercial motorcycle operator, Muhammad Mamuda Baba Jibir.

In a phone interview, Wakil said, “Yes, there was a case of conspiracy, armed robbery and culpable homicide. On August 18, 2024, at approximately 10pm, the Misau police received information from a good Samaritan who reported seeing a body lying in a pool of blood in Anguwan Agwaluma on the outskirts of Misau town.”

Wakil added, “Upon receiving the report, the DPO of Misau Police Division led a team of detectives to the scene, where they discovered that the victim’s throat had been slit with a knife.”

“The victim, identified as Muhammad Mamuda Baba Jibir from Sabon Layi in Misau town, was confirmed dead by a medical doctor at General Hospital, Misau.

“The victim’s motorcycle, a Boxer model, had been stolen by the assailants. His remains were released to his family for burial.

“On August 19, 2024, two suspects were apprehended by the police with the stolen motorcycle along the Misau-Kari road. However, before the suspects could be taken into police custody, they were attacked and lynched by an irate mob.

One of the bodies was burnt to ashes, but the motorcycle was recovered,” Wakil said.

The spokesman said the Commissioner of Police Auwal Musa Mohammed, condemned the action of the mob.
