A mob killed seven suspected cattle rustlers at the Emir’s palace in Birnin Magaji local government area of Zamfara state, Daily Trust gathered.
Residents told Daily Trust that the suspected cattle rustlers came with a DSS personnel to the Emir’s palace to negotiate the release of their cows seized by the army during an operation in a forest about three weeks ago.
However, when the DSS official and the suspected cattle rustlers arrived at the palace, some residents noticed the presence of a suspected notorious bandit among them and youths in large number lay siege to the palace.
“Shortly after the news filtered in the town that some suspected cattle rustlers or armed bandits were spotted at the Emir’s palace , angry youth stormed the palace with some of them wielding locally fabricated guns, machetes and clubs , demanding the release of the suspected cattle rustlers for outright execution,” Sani Abubakar said.
When contacted, the acting force information officer operation Sharan Daji, Major Clement Abiade confirmed the incident.
He said the wounded DSS personnel had been evacuated for medical treatment and that military personnel have been deployed to forestall any possible outbreak of law and order in the town.
