The Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF), operating under Sector 3, intercepted a group of Boko Haram terrorists who were planning an attack along the Magumeri-Maiduguri axis in Borno State.
According to a statement by MNJTF’s Chief Military Information Officer in N’Djamena, Chad, Lieutenant Colonel Olaniyi Osoba, the troops acted on credible intelligence and executed a tactical ambush that neutralised the threat before the terrorists could carry out their planned assault on innocent civilians.
Osoba said, “The troops tactically positioned themselves along the terrorists’ movement path and engaged them as they emerged from a forested area on motorcycles, using an alternative route. Upon sighting the troops, the terrorists attempted to flee but were met with heavy gunfire, forcing them to abandon their weapons and motorcycles, disrupting their violent plans.”
During the operation, the troops recovered an arms cache, including two AK-47 rifles, 51 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, two magazines, 61 rounds of 7.62 NATO ammunition, and various contraband items such as marijuana, tramadol, and cigarettes.

He said the successful action not only prevented a potential attack but also reinforced ongoing efforts to maintain peace and security in the Lake Chad region.
Following the engagement, the MNJTF troops intensified patrols in the general area to prevent any resurgence of terrorist activities, further demonstrating their readiness to counter any threats and uphold stability in the region, he added.
