‘MMA2 regional operations will increase FAAN, airlines’ revenues’

Bi-Courtney Aviation Services Limited (BASL) on Thursday said regional operations at the Murtala Muhammed Airport Terminal Two (MMA2) will be a win-win for airlines, the MMA2 operator and the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) as well as increase revenues for all parties, especially the passengers who can now connect seamlessly from regional to domestic flights.

Head of Aeronautical and Cargo Services, Remi Jibodu, spoke in Lagos on Thursday in an interactive session with members of the League of Airports and Aviation Correspondent.

He was at the session with the Head of Corporate Communications, Mrs Ajoke Yinka-Olawuyi, and Head of Aviation Security, Monica Oguta.

BASL, the operator of the terminal, said it had fulfilled all regulatory requirements to commence regional operations at the terminal currently used by no fewer than 10 airlines for their domestic flights.

Speaking at the meeting, Jibodu stated that airlines were ready to operate regional flights from the terminal, saying, “That will increase revenue for everybody in the industry.”

He disclosed that the MMA2 planned to commence the regional operations in 2024 to extend the bespoke customer experience to regional passengers.

According to him, approving the regional operations at MMA2 will boost investors’ confidence in doing business in Nigeria.

In addition, he disclosed that works were ongoing to expand the MMA2 apron to accommodate more aircraft, and that the management was also talking with some airlines to remove unserviceable aircraft limiting the capacity utilisation of the apron.

On concerns about separating regional flights from domestic flights, he said that a route had been created where international passengers would not mingle with the domestic passengers after the immigration clearance.

Also speaking, Mrs Yinka-Olawuyi said the regional structures were still intact, adding that the aviobridge still remained in use for domestic operations.
