Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Congress in Niger State and Deputy Governor of Benue State, Mr Benson Abounu, has said that the coast is clear for the party to take over power in Niger State.
He said this while addressing PDP members in Minna, the state capital, before the conduct of the congress where he promised that the congress committee will conduct the congress according to the rules and regulations guiding congresses of the PDP.

According to him, “Niger State, as of today, is governed by the opposition party, we are not in charge. But through the conduct of this congress and the conduct of this congress and doing it correctly according to the wishes of the people is what will make us to capture the seat of Niger state.
“We already know that the road is already clear, the atmosphere is ripe for PDP to take over power in Niger state. Government House Minna is already there for the taking over by the PDP because you can see that what is happening in Nigeria today, Niger state is not excluded.
“The people are just waiting for us to take over. That is why it is important that we conduct this congress according to the rules of the game because it is when you have the right person in charge of the party administration according to the wish of the people, that is when we can run the party correctly and during elections, we should be able to clear all the positions in government.”
On the conduct of the election, Abounu said they would conduct it according to the constitution of the party by presenting the list of contestants to the delegate to choose whoever they want from.
“Delegates are free to vote for the person you want for a particular position. We won’t impose any body on any delegate. You will vote according to how you feel.”
“We members of the congress committee have no candidate in mind, therefore it is not in our intention to impose any candidate on anyone. There are list of the contestants and those qualified to contest have been cleared as well as the list of delegates,” he said.
About 3000 delegates from all the 25 local government areas of the state taking part in the Congress.
