Mining company signs agreement with Wase community

The signing of the CDA implies that the mining company will carry out its corporate social responsibilities

A mining company, Nippon Integrated Business Concept LTD, has signed a Community Development Agreement (CDA) with the Jawondo community of Mavo in Wase Local Government Area of Plateau State.

The signing of the CDA implies that the mining company will carry out its corporate social responsibilities and ensure that its host community benefits from its activities, through the provision of social amenities and other empowerment programmes.

Speaking at the event in Jos the Chairman of Mineral Resources and Environmental Management Committee (MIREMCO) Plateau State District, Senator Davou Zang, said the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was very dear to his heart because it will lead to the positive impact of the host community.

“As a committee, we have worked hard to ensure the signing and enforcement of the CDA, which is enshrined in Nigeria Mineral and Mining act 2007 is carried out so that the mining host communities benefit and enjoy from the natural endowment of their community through the provision of infrastructural and social amenities by companies mining within their areas,” he said.

Zang called on all mining and quarrying companies operating in the state that have not formalise the signing of CDA with their host communities to immediately do so as MIREMCO will ensure strict monitoring of their activities.

In their separate responses, the Jawando community leaders and representatives of Nippon promised to keep to the agreement and have a harmonious working relationship.
