The FCT chapter of the Association of Local Government of Nigeria (ALGON) has declared its support on the move by the FCT administration to embark on screening of the primary school teachers before commencing the implementation of their new minimum wage.
Chairman of ALGON in the FCT, Alhaji Adamu Mustapha, who is the chairman of Gwagwalada Area Council, stated this while speaking with newsmen in Gwagwalada over the weekend.

He said teachers’ screening is in favour of the council chairmen, adding that the screening would enable the area councils to know their salary volume, staff strength, reduction of fund mismanagement and transparency.
“At least, at the end of the screening exercise, many people will know that there is a reduction in allocation and names of ghost workers on payroll will be exposed,” he said.
The ALGON chairman said that the six area council chairmen are ready to abide by the agreement signed between the association and the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) to commence the implementation of the minimum wage from February 2021 as agreed.
City news reliably gathered that the Minister of State, Hajiya Ramatu Tijjani Aliyu, had recently set up a 75-member committee from both NUT and NULGE to conduct a two-week screening of teachers before the commencement of the implementation of the new minimum wage.
