Mimiko urges rubber company to generate power

Ondo State Governor Olusegun  Mimiko has urged the management of Rubber  Estate   Nigeria limited, a company managing over  4, 500 hectares of rubber plantation in Araromi  Obu in Odigbo Local Government Area of the state to generate power , rather than export over 70 per cent of the raw product.
The governor, during a visit to the company noted that the rubber plantation is being managed by Michelin Company, which was producing tyre but left the country and relocated to Turkey due to inadequate power supply.
Mimiko  said although the company was adding value to the state in terms of raw material production and direct employment as it currently had  in its employment over 160 workers,   if it could  generate power, process and produce finished products, it would  be good for all parties concerned.
Speaking further, he said more than a thousand hectares of farmland was available for the company to explore while also encouraging the management to protect the local communities and provide them with social amenities.
Earlier, the Manager of the company, Eric Hospied, a Belgian,  told the governor that Nigeria has the best rubber in the world.
