Military repel another attack on traders in Sokoto

The military on Sunday reportedly repelled another attack on traders by bandits along Sokoto-Goronyo road.

The bandits were said to have blocked the road for traders going to Goronyo weekly market.

“They blocked the road in the morning with the intention of robbing and abducting traders that would ply the road to Goronyo for its weekly market.

“But they were repelled by the military who got information about their operation,” the chairman of Goronyo Local Government Area, Abdulwahab Goronyo told our reporter.

The marauders had blocked the road last Sunday after the market closed, killing one onion trader and abducted several others.

Goronyo market is one of the major weekly markets in the eastern part of Sokoto State where bandits held sway.

It would be recalled that several traders were killed in the market in another bandits’ attack last year.
