According to a source, Malam Sani Mohammed, they were all in the mosque at about 5a.m. when uniformed men stormed the mosque and whisked Malam Musa, Imam of the mosque away.
“As they arrested him, they pushed him down and asked him to sit on the floor. A Lot of people were also manhandled and I have to find a place in the dark to run away with others. One Surajo Madaki, headmaster of L.E.A Primary School, Jiwa-Tsoho in Suleja was also arrested, the district head of Con-oil unit, (Mai Ungwa), Malam Garba Umaru, was also tortured and brutalised. They were asked to sit on the floor and we could not conclude our morning prayers as a result of the arrest,” he said.
The source also said that a lawyer in the area, was amongst the people who were tortured, brutalised and arrested by the uniformed men.
He said, “As I’m talking to you, I’m in a bush, a lot of people are running away because since our chief imam, our district head and other well respected people in the area are being brutalised, there is speculation that the army and the police are working with some politicians that want to scare the people by putting them in cell so that they will not be able to vote their preferred candidates,” he said on phone.
Another source, who is a teacher in the area, told our reporter that the uniformed men came from Abuja and bragged that they will take them all to Abuja where nobody will see them.
When contacted, the Madalla Divisional Police Officer in-charge of C Division, Assistant Superintendent Naallah Mohammed, confirmed the incident and told our reporter that the information he got said the incident happened in the early hours of the morning in the heart of Suleja town which falls under A division.
He said, he gathered that the people, who came to make the arrest were soldiers and not men of the FCT police, adding that the Imam, who was said to have been arrested was later released while some people were taken to the barracks.
No immediate response from the military authorities in Abuja when they were contacted up till the time of filing the report yesterday.
