Personnel of Operation Safe Haven (OPSH), maintaining peace in Plateau and Some parts of Bauchi and Southern Kaduna states, have arrested eight bandits suspected to have been carrying out attacks in villages of southern Kaduna.

One other suspect was said to have been killed during the operation.

Many people were reportedly killed in several attacks recently perpetrated by suspected bandits in some local government areas of Southern Kaduna.

The Commander Sector 7 of the operation in Southern Kaduna, Colonel David Nwakonobi, who paraded the suspects in Kafanchan local government area of the state said the arrest came following a receipt of credible intelligence by the operation.

He said, “On 5 August 2020, own troops acting on credible intelligence, apprehended 6 suspected militias at Lere LGA of Kaduna State.

“In a related development, own troops in conjunction with members of vigilante group apprehended two other suspects at Chawai, a community which has between the fringes of Kauru and Zangon Kataf LGAs of Kaduna State, ” he added.

According to the commander, items recovered from the suspects include; 2 locally fabricated Pump Action Guns, 2 locally made pistols, one 9mm ammunition, 4 machetes, 2 cartridges, 1 dagger and 2 Motorcycles.

While giving the names of the suspects, the commander, said Abubakar Ali, Ali Amadu, Bawa Idi, Umar Dikko, Garba Damina, and Muhammad Ibrahim were arrested in Lere LGA while Adamu Joseph and William Barnabas were arrested Kaura and Zangonkataf LGAs of the state, adding that the suspects would be handed over to the police for further investigation.

Colonel Nwakonobi however assured that OPSH would continue to work with the various communities to bring an end to the attacks and isolated killings in Southern Kaduna and its environs.
