Midfielder John Mikel Obi could return to the Chelsea line up in their match action against Leicester City in the EFL Cup Tuesday night at the King Power stadium.
The veteran missed the bulk of pre-season and the first five English Premier League fixtures due to his international commitments at the 2016 Rio Olympics, where he led the Dream Team to claim the bronze medal.
Chelsea will be looking to put their defeat to Liverpool behind them and progress into the fourth round of the EFL Cup and build up their confidence ahead of a table-topping trip to Arsenal on Saturday.
In the last round, Chelsea fought off League One side Bristol Rovers, with a tight 3-2 win at Stamford Bridge. Leicester meanwhile have not had to play in the cup thus far, having finished last season as Premier League champions – but following a mixed start to the new season, the Foxes will be looking towards the EFL Cup as a trophy that they can get their hands on.
Belgian striker Michy Batshuayi will be hoping to impress Antonio Conte once again, having scored twice in the previous round – whilst energetic winger Victor Moses will be looking to oust Willian as the preferred right-wing option, with another bright performance.
Leicester will almost certainly put out a strong side for Tuesday night’s encounter, with new signings Islam Slimani – who scored twice on his Premier League debut at the weekend and Ahmed Musa possible contenders to start alongside Jamie Vardy.
Chelsea will still be without John Terry, as he recovers from an ankle injury. Long-term injury concern Kurt Zouma is also out.
For Leicester, they will be missing key players in Kasper Schmeichel and Nampalys Mendy – who are both expected to return at the weekend.
