MFM of Lagos claimed their first victory in the ongoing Zenith Bank Women’s Basketball League National Final 8 in Lagos with a 97-31 pounding of Zenith Bank sponsored Black Gold.
Before yesterday’s match, both teams were without victory as they had lost their two matches but in the third match, the MFM Ladies proved too strong for Black Gold as they won all the quarters with ease.
MFM had lost their opening game of the Final 8 by 71-46 to Air Warriors on Friday and followed up with another 56-61 defeat to Dolphins on Day 2 on Saturday.
However against Black Gold, they raced to an early lead winning the first quarter 23-7 before increasing their lead to 48-13 in the second.
In the third quarter, they stretch their massive lead to 71-25 before adding 26 points in the final quarter to win 97-31.
With three defeats in a row, Black Gold are effectively out of contention for the final match.
Today is rest day as sponsor Zenith Bank hosts the teams at its corporate headquarters and organises clinics and workshops for the officials.
