Lionel Messi’s father, Jorge Messi, has confirmed that his son will join Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) following his controversial exit from Barcelona.

Messi has continued to dominate the headlines amid talks over his move to the French club.

Daily Trust had earlier reported that the Argentine playmaker has agreed a two-year deal with PSG with an option of extension.

Addressing journalists at Barcelona’s El Prat airport on Tuesday before his flight to Paris, Jorge, who doubles as the footballer’s agent, said his son is set to join the French side.

“Yes,” he said when asked if his son will sign the deal with PSG later in the day.

Messi, who spent 21 years at Barcelona, had earlier broken down in tears during an emotional press conference held on Sunday.

During the briefing, he had also revealed that joining PSG was only a “possibility”.

He had said: “It still hasn’t sunk in that I’m leaving this club, that my life will be changing completely. It will be a difficult change for me and especially for my family. But we have to accept it and move on.

“This is very hard for me after so many years, after being here my entire life,” he said. I wasn’t prepared.”
