A tricycle (okada) operator, Mr. Elias Ofoke, was early Friday hacked to death by a man suspected to be mentally deranged near Udensi Bridge in Abakiliki metropolis in Ebonyi State.
Daily Trust gathered that late Ofoke was a father of six children who hailed from Agbaja Unuhu in Abakaliki Local Government Area of the state.

A witness who doesn’t was his name in print said what led to the death of Ofoke was the attempted arrest of the mentally deranged man by members of state security outfit popularly known as Neighborhood Watch.
“The man resisted the arrest which led to his torturing by members of the Neighborhood Watch.
“So, not quite long, the deceased okada man dropped his passenger near the scene and while he was about to move his bike he was suddenly attacked by the man who was yet to recover from the beatings he received from the Neighbourhood Watch members.
“The deceased was hit on the head by the madman”, the source added.
In an interview, the state chairman, Motorcycle Transport Union, Comrade Paulinus Atam, said the union had never recorded such case since his emergence as chairman.
The state Commissioner for Internal Security and Border Peace, Chief Stanley Okoro Emegha, confirmed the incident.
