Five people are confirmed dead since January from Cerebro Spinal Meningitis( CSM), in Sokoto.
The five died at the Gada General Hospital, and the Wauru Primary Health Centre in Gada Local Government of Sokoto State.
Sokoto health commissioner Balarabe Kakale, who confirmed this, explained that three deaths were recorded at the Gada General hospital, and two at the Wauru health Centre.
He said the deaths occurred from January, this year to date.
Testing on cerebrospinal fluid samples at a Sokoto laboratory indicated meningitis, he said, debunking insinuations about a “strange or mysterious disease.”
Kakale added that other cases of high fever and cerebral fever were identified, assuring that the situation had been brought under total control.
Two people hospitalised at Gada General Hospital are reported to be stable.
The Commissioner disclosed that adequate drugs and medicament were made available in the local government for the free treatment of the patients.
