The National Primary Healthcare Development Agency (NPHCDA), along with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), World Health Organisation (WHO) and other development agencies, has launched an immunisation campaign to combat the spread of meningitis in Jigawa State.
The response came after the disease broke out in Gagarawa, Maigatari and Suletankarkar local government areas which resulted in significant losses of life.
During the launch of the campaign at the Gumel emir’s place in Gumel LGA, Mr Hassan Shehu Usman, an official from NPHCDA, said additional vaccination centres had been set up to ensure the effective administration of vaccines to individuals aged one to 29.
He also highlighted the intensification of an awareness campaign to educate people about the importance of immunisation.
