Membership: No APC member will be left out — Gov Buni

  • Stakeholders meet over Delta crisis

Yobe State Governor and Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) national caretaker and extraordinary convention planning committee, Mai Mala Buni has said no member of the party would be left out in the on-going membership registration and revalidation exercise of the party.

The Buni-committee had declared the nationwide exercise to update and validate membership registers across its chapters.

Dust has been trailing the exercise across the country with the pioneer National Chairman of the party, Chief Bisi Akande, describing the exercise as an aberration. The leader of the party, Aiswaju Bola Tinubu and Comrade Adams Oshiomhole have supported Akande’s position on the exercise.

Speaking after revalidating his membership in Bunigari, Gujba LGA, Yobe State, Buni maintained that  the exercise was within the confines of the law under Article (9) 4 of the party.

“Article (9) 4 of our party is very clear about what we are doing; we cannot do anything outside the constitution. I am assuring all our party members that no one would be left unregistered.

“The exercise is going according to plan, as expected and would avail the party the chance to wax stronger by having more membership in the country,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Presidential Support Committee (PSC), has urged officials of the APC carrying out the revalidation exercise to execute the exercise dutifully, transparently and with the fear of God.

Doing that, according to a statement by the National Facilitator of the PSC, Gideon Sammani, will enable the party to produce an authentic membership register.

The committee also advised the leadership of the party to refrain from anything that would scuttle or tarnish the exercise.

“The exercise should be seen to be free, fair and transparent and no one should attempt to hijack it at any level,” Sammani urged.

 Stakeholders meet over Delta crisis

Also, yesterday, stakeholders of the APC met at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja, and deliberated on how to resolve the crisis rocking the Delta State chapter of the party over the registration exercise.

The party had suspended the exercise in the state following the intense crisis rocking the chapter.

Addressing newsmen, Niger State governor and chairman of the APC national membership registration and revalidation exercise, Sani Bello, said the meeting agreed on a workable method to move the party forward.

“It is not unusual in a political process that you have differences, opinions and what have you. So, Delta State is a very important state for us in the South-South. And we have been able to agree on a workable method to move the party forward.

“So I hope that going forward, we won’t have to come here from Delta State. They should be able to resolve their issues back home,” he said.
