Meet the new Atar Aten of Ganawuri

HRH Yakubu Chaimang, the Atar Aten of Ganawuri was born on 3rd September 1949 in Ganawuri, Riyom LGA to the family of Ata’a Chai Mang and Ade Choth Chair Mang.

In 1956, he enrolled into Sudan United Mission (SUM) primary school, the junior section which was then referred to as ‘elementary school’ and completed it in1959. He was later enrolled into the higher Primary school in 1960 at the Sudan United School in Foron in now Barkin Ladi LGA where he obtained his first school leaving certificate.

From there he moved on to the prestigious Boys Secondary School Gindiri in 1963 and by 1967 he had successfully completed and sat for the West Africa Examination Council the same year. He was in 1968 enrolled into the Meteorological Training Institute and Training School, Oshodi, Lagos for a year course.

He later applied and gained admission into the Advanced Teachers College, Zaria in 1974 for a Nigerian Certificate in Education (NCE) and compeleted in 1977.  By 1979, he pushed further into the University of Jos for a Bachelor degree in Education (B.Ed) with speciality in Mathematics which he completed in 1982.

He has also enrolled into the COCIN Theological Education by Extension (TEE) to obtain a Diploma in theology.

The Atar Aten has served as a Meteorological Assistant between 1968-1974, a Pioneer Principal of GSS Lebwit in Pankshin LGA between 1982-1985, Principal GSS Dawaki in Kanke LGA between 1985-1988; Principal GSS Bum in Kanke between 1999-2004. He ascended to the throne as Atar Aten on 15th September 2004 after he was elected unanimously by the King makers to succeed the late Chaimang II.
