Meet Nollywood’s rising action stars

For a time, Nollywood films predominantly focused on drama, romance, and mystery, with the action genre taking a backseat. It wasn’t like the golden era of films such as Issakaba, Rattlesnake, and State of Emergency. However, in the past two years, there’s been a notable resurgence in the production of action-packed thrillers, bringing a fresh balance to the industry. In the 90s and early 2000s, actors like the late Saint Obi, the late JT Tom West, Sam Dede, and Hanks Anuku were the defining faces of Nollywood’s action blockbusters. While some of them still remain active in the action genre, a new generation of actors has emerged, solidifying their place as Nollywood’s new action stars. In this edition, Weekend Trust shines a spotlight on these action stars.
