Eight-year-old Divine Momoh stole the show penultimate Friday when she opened the First Open Water Sports Boat Race showing off her swimming skills at the Jabi Lake, Abuja.
At the event which was part of the 16th edition of the Nigerian Army Sports Festival (NAFEST), the primary school pupil who began swimming at age two, told Young Trusters that: “I was not originally part of the game. I came with my mother to visit my father when we were told about the competition and I decided to participate.”
On if she felt intimidated having to compete among adults, the confident starlet said: No, not at all. I was even alone by myself in the water. And I wasn’t afraid.”
When asked why she had no fear, she said: “I started swimming when I was two and it was my mother who taught me how to swim.”
The young Divine reeled out the highpoints of the day for her.
She said: “I am so happy that I have met the big generals and that I shook their hands and that Mr. Buratai [Lt. Gen, COAS] is the one who decorated me with the medal.”
