Medical Council partners Bloom Public health to strengthen medical labs

The Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria (MLSCN) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Bloom Public Health, a non- governmental organization to strengthen medical laboratory practices across public and private health facilities in the country.

Speaking during the exercise yesterday in Abuja, Registrar of MLSCN, Dr Tosan Erhabor, said the partnership would help transform the country’s health laboratory system.

He said the partnership promises to change the narrative of poor health indices in the country, discourage health tourism to other climes, and save the country the $2blllon reportedly spent annually by citizens in search qualitative diagnosis.

The registrar said the immediate focus of the partnership was to upscale the capacity of laboratories at the primary healthcare level.

“Pursuant to the MOU, the partnership will embark on the capacity building for medical laboratory professionals, particularly at the primary healthcare level, through joint training and educational Initiatives and this would guarantee a highly skilled workforce and pave way for continuous improvement in the field,” he said.

Chief Executive Officer, Bloom Public Health, Prof Chimezie Anyakaora, said diagnosis is a pillar in healthcare delivery adding that if it is not gotten right all other spectrum of the healthcare delivery would not be gotten right.
