In a move to add value to the media industry through technology, Media Trust Limited, the publishers of Daily Trust newspapers, Trust TV, Aminiya and Teen Trust in collaboration with Startup Kano on Saturday organised a media hackathon for young innovators in Kano.
Tagged “Media Hackathon: The future of media Kano 2022.” the programme is an initiative aimed at encouraging young innovators in technology with prospects in the media industry.
Participants were drawn from various aspects of expertise who have developed several innovative concepts to promote and gear up the technological advancement of the media.
The founder of Startup Kano, Aisha Tofa said, “The hackathon is organised to see how we can support young people in technology and creative industry to come together and create things that will simplify the use of media for users and consumers.”
Speaking, the Editor-in-Chief and Chief Executive Officer, Daily Trust, Naziru Mika’ilu, said the company is engaging young minds to see how the company can support them via media consumption and support their work.
He added that the exercise would be a continuous process as the company is looking up to other startups in other states like Kaduna, Abuja and others with the aim of tapping into other opportunities.
On his part, the General Manager, Trust Television, Ibrahim Shehu, said engaging the talents would certainly make impact on the channel’s programming as the station is looking at breaking barriers in television broadcasting.
Three winners emerged from the two main categories: Creative and Technology. In the creative category, Yazid Umar emerged as the the first winner with a gift of N200,000, Salamatu Adamu came second with a prize of N100,000 while the second runner-up, Abdussamad Ibrahim, walked away with N75,000.
In the Technology category, Sa’id Sani came first with a cash prize of N200,000, Munir Ibrahim came second with N100,000 while Aminu Babayo emerged third with N75,000.
