He said constructive criticism remains the best approach to the practice of the profession.
Madumere, who spoke yesterday  shortly after receiving an award conferred on him in his office at the Government House, Owerri as the Most Dependable Deputy Governor in the South -East by the News Makers magazine, assured that the award would challenge him to do more.
 He said:”You know people think award is just a ceremonial thing you achieve for the fun of it. It challenges us and create even more burden for those who understand its meaning”. He also used the opportunity to call on the publishers of News Makers to also evaluate the leadership burden on their shoulders. “The importance of media and the practitioners are such that cannot be over emphasize. It is either we form alliance towards destroying our society or make it,” he said.
He decried the dying tradition of investigative journalism in the country noting that this day some journalists prefers  to  rely on hearsay to write news stories.  According to him, the media is traced to be part of most of the feats achieved by both developed and developing countries in the world.
 He commended the Media for its role in the sustenance of Nigeria’s democracy as it has always intervene when it matters most. He therefore called on Journalists to see themselves as leaders and to come to terms with realities of the burden that associate with their role in nation building because they owe Nigeria such patriotic call.
He warned against leaving leadership in the hands of people who are not serious and only sees position as where they sit an sip tea.
