An 18-year-old mechanic, Muhammad Tasiu, has been arrested by vigilantes in Zuba town in the FCT for allegedly providing logistics to bandits.
The suspect was arrested on Monday in Anagada community along the Zuba-Gwagwalada highway where he repairs generators and motorcycles.
A vigilante, who spoke with City & Crime, said the arrest was sequel to an intelligence report against the suspect for supplying food items, among other things, to a gang of bandits based on the outskirts of the community.
He said items recovered in his possession included four phone batteries that usually lasted for about a week when charged, as well as a motorcycle with half bag of beans tied on it, allegedly meant to be delivered to the bandits.
He noted that the recovered batteries and the suspect’s mobile phone had been handed over to the Department of State Services in Zuba, while effort to trace his gang members was ongoing.
However, Tasiu, who spoke with our reporter from the vigilantes’ custody, said he bought the beans in Dei-Dei town for his master who was to take it to his house in Kaduna State.
When reminded about the irony in taking beans from Abuja to Kaduna where it’s likely to be cheaper, the suspect said he was just on an errand for his master.
