MD of TCN appointed chairman, WAPP board

The West African Power Pool (WAPP) has appointed the Acting Managing Director and CEO of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), Engr. Sule Ahmed Abdulaziz, as its executive board chairman.

The appointment was made during the 46th meeting of the WAPP Executive Board chaired by the Secretary General, Siengui Apollinaire KI, which was held via a video conference on Wednesday.

A statement by the General Manager, Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, on Thursday, said Engr. Abdulaziz, was nominated by the former MD/CEO of PHCN, Engr. Joseph Makoju, an honorary member of WAPP.

Engr. Makoju noted that Engr. Abdulaziz is an expert in engineering with vast experience in the electricity sector, and would perform creditably as the new WAPP Executive Board chairman.

His proposal was endorsed by MD’s and DG’s of other members of the board.

Until he left office in May 2020, Mr Usman Gur Mohammed, the immediate past MD of TCN was the chairman of WAPP.

The new WAPP chairman, Engr. Abdulaziz, assured the board of his total commitment to the overall objective of the regional electricity body.

He also urged members to ensure prompt payment of their contributions to the pool, noting that TCN’s contribution will be remitted very soon as President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the payment.

WAPP was created by Decision A/DEC.5/12/99 of the 22nd Summit of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Authority of Heads of State and Government and adopted during the 29th Summit in Niamey, Niger Republic.
