Professor Anthony Igyuve of the Department of Mass Communication, Nasarawa State University, Keffi, Nasarawa State, has urged youths not to make themselves available as tools for violence on the outcomes of the 2023 general elections.

He made the plea on Thursday in Abuja while delivering a keynote at “The Peace For Free Lecture Series” with the theme: “Sustainable Peace Beyond Elections”, ahead of the May 29, inauguration of the incoming administration of the president-elect, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, organised by Peace For Free Advocacy Initiative (PFAI).

Igyuve commended Nigerian youths for their uncommon courage, enthusiasm, and active participation in the last general elections despite the challenges, which he described as a demonstration of the commitment to making Nigeria better.

He urged the youths to emulate former President Goodluck Jonathan who sacrificed his ambition for the peace of the country when he contested and lost to President Muhammadu Buhari in 2015.

He said, “Today, your future is more important than any other thing, and that future can best be guaranteed under a democratic governance and peaceful environment. If there are grievances arising from the outcome of an election, there are institutional mechanisms that we peacefully take to resolve the conflicts.

“So, let no one make selves easily available for politicians to manipulate by causing unnecessary unrest because those who are manipulating you don’t have good intentions for you.”
