Four suspects including the matron of a cottage hospital in Iloffa, Oke-Ero LGA of Kwara State, Mrs Olanrewaju Joseph, have been arraigned in Ilọrin over the missing placenta of the daughter of one Mrs Williams Bukola.

Other suspects also docked alongside the matron are Dr Ajibola Joseph, who attended to the baby’s mother, Mrs Alabi Peace, a nurse who took the delivery of the child and a ward attendant, Mrs Adewunmi Toyin.

The Police First Information Report said they were dragged to two separate courts on Thursday over alleged negligent conduct causing danger to persons or property contrary to Section 196 of Penal Code.

Magistrate A A Issa who presided over the case of the matron and the doctor granted the duo bail and adjourned to June 26, 2024 for hearing.

Meanwhile, Chief Magistrate Qudus Adebayo in the other hearing, denied bail for Mrs Alabi Peace, who took the child’s delivery and the ward attendant, Mrs Adewunmi Toyin accused of disposing of the missing placenta.

Oluwaseun Ikubami and C.M Chima appeared for Mrs Toyin while Chief Isaac Adebayo and Mrs Bukola Owoniyi represented Mrs Peace.

The complainant’s counsel was Barrister Hassan.

After the argument of both parties, trial judge, Adebayo, said she lacks jurisdiction over the case. She however denied the suspects bail due to the “sensitivity of the matter”.

She ordered that they be remanded at the federal correctional facility and adjourned to June 13, 2024.
