Masobe releases 2 books during lockdown

Masobe Books, a new publishing outfit based in Lagos, has released two books, ‘The Mechanics of Yenagoa’ by Michael Afenfia and ‘A Broken People’s Playlist’ by Chimeka Garricks.

The publishing house was supposed to launch both books earlier in the year, but the lockdown due to the Coronavirus pandemic altered their plans.

Founder and CEO of Masobe Books, Othuke Ominiabohs says about the company’s experience releasing its books at such a time.

“Surprisingly, it seemed people were waiting for something to convince them things are getting back to normal.

“At this time, there are no new books being released in the country, so the response was quite positive.”

‘A Broken People’s Playlist,’ released on June 8 is a collection of interrelated short stories, all set in Port Harcourt, which explore social and family issues that revolve around love, infidelity and so much more.

Afenfia’s novel, ‘The Mechanics of Yenagoa,’ which became popular first as a web series, follows Ebinimi, star mechanic of Kalakala Street, who is always getting in and out of trouble.

Other books scheduled to be launched this year by Masobe Books include Abubakar Adam Ibrahim’s second collection of short stories ‘Dreams and Assorted Nightmares,’ TJ Benson’s debut novel ‘The Madhouse,’ Ominiabohs’s sequel to ‘Odufa’ ‘Aviara: Who Will Remember You,’ Angel Patricks Amegbe’s ‘The Days of Silence,’ and Ukamaka Olisakwe’s ‘Ogadinma.’
