Market fire: Gambari leads delegation to Sokoto

The Chief of Staff to President Muhammadu Buhari, Professor Ibrahim Gambari, on Monday, led a 5-member federal government delegation to Sokoto over the recent market inferno.

Among the delegation, were the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Hajiya Sadiya Umar Faruk and the Minister of Communication and Digital Economy, Dr. Isa Ali Pantami.

Others were the Minister of Police Affairs, Muhammad Maigari Dingyadi and Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko.

Gambari said they were sent to Sokoto by President Muhammadu Buhari to sympathise with the government and the people of the state over the recent fire disaster that gutted the Sokoto Central Market.

He said the President was extremely touched by the monumental loss incurred by the affected marketer, adding that the federal government would support the state towards a speedy restoration and reconstruction of the market.

Also speaking, Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko said President Buhari was deeply concerned about the   incident and its impact on the people of Sokoto state.

Responding, Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, said that they were highly consoled and delighted by the visit of the delegation noting that they were doing their best to support and reconstruct the market.

While appealing to the federal government for its support, Tambuwal described the inferno which he said was caused by an electrical fault from a transformer, as a great loss not to the people of the state but to the West African sub-region.
