Mark and Ahmadu Alli, the director general of the presidential campaign team, as well as the party national chairman, Adamu Muazu, had on Tuesday slammed  Maku for allegedly claiming that he had the president’s approval and blessings to defect to APGA. All the party leaders accused the former information minister of ungratefulness, saying he should apologise before being allowed back into the PDP if he wanted to return.
But Maku, who left the PDP after his petition against the 2014 governorship primary was ignored by the national leadership of the party, said he was surprised that Mark, Ali and Muazu would peddle lies that he claimed to have had Jonathan’s approval to leave.
His campaign organisation said in a statement that Maku never claimed to have spoken with the president or had his approval to leave for APGA.
“The truth of the matter is that Mr. Maku never told anyone even while contesting for the governorship ticket in the PDP that the president was behind him, neither did he suggest to anyone when he decamped to APGA that President Jonathan supported his decision,” the statement, signed by Barrister Zakari Edego, spokesman of the campaign organisation said.
