A newspaper said the Hero singer has been in the capital for a series of meetings with a “top theatre producer” who has a £15,000-a-week contract on the table; roughly the average weekly wage of a Premier League footballer.
Mariah, whose new single Obsessed is out this week, is apparently set to make her stage debut next spring.
Meanwhile, music critics have suggested that Obsessed features lyrics that act as a riposte to rapper Eminem’s claim that the pair have had romantic relations in the past.
The slim shady star made the suggestion in his song Bagpipes From Baghdad, in which he raps: “Mariah, what ever happened to us/ Why did we have to break up?”
Mariah’s single contains the words, “You’re delusional, boy, you’re losing your mind. It must be weed, it must be the E,” which showbiz journalists believe are an outright denial of the claim.
The star of upcoming flick Precious, which also features fellow musician Lenny Kravitz, has been joined by husband Nick Cannon in refuting Marshall Mathers’ boasts.
In a recent blog, Cannon wrote: “Maybe I’m going too far, but I thought we got past the days where white men could spew vulgar obscenities at our beautiful queens and get away with it.
“So, Miss Marshall, I’m going to make you wish you never spoke my name and regret the ungodly things you said about my wife.”
