Zimbabwean Visitor Mapwanya has won the 2018 FCT Classic title following a tense battle against Ghanaian Vicent Torgah at the final round on Saturday in Abuja.

The duo of Mapwanya and Torgah, alongside Nigeria’s Gift Willy, had completed the final set of the day at the IBB International Golf and Country Club as leaders after 36 holes.

The Zimbabwean and the Ghanaian posted four birdies each, but Willy could only sink three birdies.

After 53 holes of play, Torgah led with one shot playing the final hole, but he boogied while Mapwanya’s birdie on hole 18 forced a play-off.

Elisha Markus and Samba Niang tied for fourth position with six-over,  followed by Mike Ubi at seven-over par after 54 holes.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the FCT Classic is the season-opening event of the 2018 West Africa Golf Tour (WAGT), which is in its third season.

The Tour will break a new ground with the staging of the Eko Challenge Cup from Wednesday to Friday at the Lakawe Lakes Golf Club in Lagos.

This is the first time the Tour will be staging a tournament in Lagos.(NAN)
