The Senior Special Assistant to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Students Engagement, Comrade Sunday Dayo Asefon, has said many Nigerian students are not aware of the social investments schemes carried out by the federal government.
Asefon who stated this on Thursday in Abuja during the unveiling of Nigerian Students flag and 15 points Renewed Hope Students agenda of his office, said many indigent students who are supposed to be beneficiaries of the schemes and scholarships do not know when they are conducted or when the forms are readily available to pick.
The agendas include enforcing Nigerian Student Leaders’ Regional Dialogue, Annual All Nigerian Tertiary Institution students affairs conference, Foreign and local digital skill scholarship scheme, Academic excellence reward scheme and National students competition and readership campaign among others.
The Senior Adviser to the President also revealed that all the bottlenecks attached to students loan scheme had been removed and that disbursement would commence this month.
He said: “I want to assure that the loan will get to indigent students and my office will make sure that students have access to the loan and not to be hijacked by a few individuals.”
Asefon while admitting that there were a lot of challenges on the campuses, said, the loan will help to ensure students go to institutions of their choice and finish without having monetary challenge.
“Majority of Nigerian students have lost hope and said education is a scam but Tinubu has been able to revive and change the face of education in the last few months. Tinubu is committed to uninterrupted academic calendar, he wants to ensure that four years course finishes in four years without additional year,” he said.
