Many killed in Imo cult clash

An unspecified number of persons have been reported killed while others injured in a clash between rival cults in Awara community of Ohaji/Egbema Local Government of Area of the state.
The incident which started in Awara community early yesterday, extended to the neighbouring communities of Assa and Obitti where lives were lost.
Daily Trust on Sunday gathered that the rampaging cult groups also killed 3 security men of the Water Smith oil company operating in the area.
However, speaking on telephone with Daily Trust on Sunday yesterday, the Transition Committee chairman of the local government area, Ebenezer Amadi, said that not less than 10 persons lost their lives in the incident.
He expressed regret over the dastardly act, saying security operatives have been deployed to the areas to avert further occurence.
When contacted, the Police Public Relation Officer of the Imo State Police Command, DSP Andrew Enwerem, confirmed the incident.
He said that the casualty figure is yet to be ascertained, adding that an undisclosed number of people have been arrested.
