Many feared killed in Kutep-Hausa clash in Taraba

People suspected to be Kutep militia have allegedly attacked a Hausa quarters in Takum town Taraba State and killed many Hausas.

A resident, Malam Yakubu Sani, said the militia armed with sophisticated weapons launched the attack early Sunday.

He explained that the Hausas were not involved in the crisis between the Fulani and Kutep in Takum but the Kutep transferred their aggression on them.

“As l’m talking to you, the attack is still going on and no security is deployed to stop the militia from killing the innocent Hausa people inside Takum town.

He claimed that the militia had killed 13 Hausa travellers along Takum-Maraban Road, Takum-Kashinbila Road and Takum-Katsina-Ala Road within the last few days.

Sani called on the federal and Taraba State government to deploy soldiers and police in the area to safeguard lives.

The National President of Kutep Development Association, Mr Emmanuel Ukwen, when contacted, said he was not in Takum so could not know what was happening there.

“l am in Jalingo now and l don’t know what is happening there, l will find out what is happening,” he said.

The police spokesman, SP Usman Abdullahi, told Daily Trust that the Kutep had killed two Hausa people in Takum town and the Hausas revolted against the killing which ignited the crisis.

He stated that soldiers and police had been deployed in Takum town to control the situation.
