Not fewer than 25 bodies have been received at Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital morgue from the scene of the explosion and gun attack on the civil servants undergoing screening at Sabon Gari Local Government of Kaduna state Tuesday morning.
Though the Medical Director of Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital, Professor Khalid Zakari could not confirm the number of the dead brought to the hospital, he said 40 injured people have been received by the hospital.
Daily Trust reports that sources in the hospital’s morgue said they counted 25 bodies as the number of the dead and injured taken other hospitals is not known.
Kaduna state Governor, Nasir Elrufai has, through his Twitter account, put the casualty figure at 20.
“I am sad that a terrorist bomb attack just killed 20 people in Sabon Gari Zaria. May the souls of our innocent departed rest in peace, Amen,” he tweeted.
He added “We call on our citizens to be vigilant and avoid crowded places like markets, mosques, churches and motor parks in the next few weeks.”
Daily Trust correspondent in Zaria said four men in black attires were seen in Sabon Gari Local Government Secretariat and after a bomb was detonated, the men began shooting those trying to escape.
He added that many people have lost their lives while others are receiving treatment at various hospitals in Zaria.
